Hi, Jew's harp enthusiasts, I'm a Jew's harp beginner and hoping for advises and warnings. I've played harmonica for 20 years and many things that didn't seem to matter in the beginning - how to hold the instrument, moving harp rather than head, etc. - turned out to be very important as my technique evolved and I started playing more difficult stuff. Unlearning bad habits is quite difficult after years of playing so I want to save me that trouble on the Jew´s harp. I suppose there are differing opinions on the "correct" way of playing but I will be thankful for all advises and warnings. I just discovered this site and it seems to have plenty of information but I'll post, this all the same. Also because it would be nice to get in touch with other lovers of this wonderful instrument. The instrument I have is a handmade Jew's harp or Khoumus like they call it, from Yakutia. It´s in E. I can carry some rhythm and have been experimenting with different ways of breathing. I can also get some melodies with the overtones but it's rather limited still. Best regards, Jóhannes from Reykjavík, Iceland
