That's very interesting. I've always had tooth trouble, jews harp or not, and, ultimately lost my front top teeth. I can tell you that it is still possible to play using a denture! In the end I got implants --- which are great for playing, because the connection to the bone is just like a real tooth, but I am very wary of applying too much pressure. It is only necessary to apply enough pressure to make the contact firm: one should not push at all. Any extra pressure will come only from the strength of the spring. However, eg when suffering stage fright, one can be applying too much pressure, then the teeth will ache. I have a S. Indian percussionist friend who says that playing for hours makes his teeth ache.
